A Parika man has been arrested after dealing his visually impaired wife and his 11-year-old daughter punches to their faces on Saturday afternoon.
A police rank who was in the process of arresting the man was also assaulted by him.
Police in a report said that the suspect arrived home on Saturday at about 1.30 pm under the influence of alcohol and began to verbally abuse his 27-year-old wife with a series of expletives before punching her in the face and causing her to suffer injuries.
The man then proceeded to vent his anger on his daughter, punching her in the face several times also before throwing her out of the door. He then escaped.
A report was made at the Parika Police Station and the suspect was contacted by the police who informed him of the allegations made, then cautioned him. However, as a sergeant was in the process of arresting the man, he pushed the officer several times in his chest.
Ranks were subsequently able to subdue the suspect and he was arrested and taken to the Parika Police Station. While at the station, the man also began using profanity against officers, causing a crowd to gather. He was later escorted to the Leonora Police Station and placed in custody.
Further investigations are underway.
