A Vreed-en-Hoop man has been hospitalized at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) after he was struck down by an intoxicated minibus driver on Saturday evening.
The injured man is currently nursing wounds to his head and about his body.
The victim was identified as 53-year-old Pooran Chatterpaul of Lot 117 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
According to the police, enquiries revealed that at about 6 pm, minibus BWW 9538 driven by 46-year-old Ryan Barclay of 47 Norton Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown was proceeding east along the northern side of New Road when Chatterpaul came into the path of the bus.
The driver in a bid to avoid hitting the man swerved south but despite his efforts, the front portion of the minibus struck the man down resulting in him being injured.
The injured man was picked up by the driver in a conscious state and taken to the WDRH, examined by a doctor and admitted.
Barclay was served a notice of intended prosecution after a Breathalyzer test that was conducted on him showed that he had .42% and .39% BAC micrograms of alcohol in his breath. He is currently in police custody at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station assisting with further investigations.
