The Goed Fortuin motorcyclist who died on Friday following a collision with a vehicle driven by the former Head of the Presidential Guard, was the sole breadwinner for his family. At the time of the incident, the deceased, Isgar Esau was returning to work.
The man’s daughter, Katimah Isgar, told Stabroek News that her father, a contractor, had been working in construction since he was a teenager. She noted that Esau who was the father of four and lived with herself and her mother was the sole breadwinner of their family.
The young woman shared that her older brothers who are also in construction had also been working that day but at different sites. Her father, she said had gone home for lunch and was returning to work when the accident happened. At the time, he was overseeing work being done at a site at Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, a short distance away from where one of her brothers resides.
Brian Joseph, the retired Assistant Commissioner of Police involved in the accident was questioned and later released on Friday night on $100,000 station bail.
Investigations revealed that about 2:10 pm on Friday, PZZ 6015, which was being driven by Joseph, was proceeding west along the southern side of the Meer Zorgen Public Road (Harbour Bridge Road), WBD, when he attempted to turn north at the T-junction.
In the process of navigating the turn, police said, the front of the car collided with the front of Esau’s motorcycle, CH 7636.
Esau was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
