A Corentyne man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting the Mayor of Rose Hall Town at the Hampshire Civic Clinic Centre.
The Mayor, Dave Budhu, accused the man, 53, a Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union Field Officer and Councillor of dealing him a cuff behind his neck and calling him a “waste man.”
The Guyana Police Force, yesterday said that the Mayor reported that he was at a meeting with the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall and councillors from Kilcoy, Hampshire and Rose Hall Town discussing drainage and irrigation.
However, just after the 10 am meeting, Budhu and the suspect who were both in the compound were engaged in a heated argument over the cleaning of Williamsburg Street, Corentyne.
“The suspect became annoyed and started to abuse the mayor calling him a waste man and dealt him a cuff behind his neck”, the statement noted.
The matter was reported at the Rose Hall Town Police Outpost after which Budhu was escorted to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
The suspect was then arrested and placed into custody pending charges.
