Council can only sell land with the subject Minister’s approval

Dear Editor,

Reference is made to the article “Ministry warns city against shady property transactions.”  Minister Dharamlall knows full well that under Guyana’s Municipal and District Councils Act Section 240, a council can only sell land with his approval. Would the minister therefore tell the public exactly what shady transaction he approved?

Or is this just another example of the PPP/C government’s duplicity and part of a nefarious scheme to remove the democratically elected council so it can do what it wants with the city including selling valuable lands to its cronies and foreigners? Is there nothing in this country they don’t want to control for their own money grubbing purposes?

Sincerely,

Francis Newton
