The Ministry of Health on Monday opened the newly renovated Better Hope Health Centre on the East Coast of Demerara.
According to a release from the ministry, Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony said “We have already assigned a doctor and several other health care workers who will be stationed at this facility full time”.
During his address, the Health Minister urged pregnant and lactating mothers to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to the Department of Public Information, Anthony explained that the health centre serviced hundreds of persons in the community for a number of years but was abandoned and left to deteriorate in 2017. Following meetings with the Guyana Sugar Corporation and the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited, the facility was officially handed over to the Ministry.
In addition to offering the usual medical services, the Health Minister announced that the centre will be used as permanent Covid-19 vaccination site for the East Coast of Demerara.
Anthony extended appreciation to Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development Anand Persaud and the Regional team who ensured the successful completion of the building project. The project was funded by the Government of Guyana at a cost of $25 million.
