Incumbent president of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), Kalam Azad Juman-Yassin has said that he would like to have elections as soon as possible.
Yassin, an attorney, made the remarks during a recent interview.
“We had last year appointed a committee to revise the constitution. That has been done and we had several meetings with all the Council Members to get their inputs…”
He added, “Before the Tokyo Olympics, the draft new constitution was sent to the IOC for approval. Our constitution has to be approved by the IOC [International Olympic Committee]. We are waiting on that. As soon as that comes back, we should be able to have elections as early as possible.”
Yassin has been at the helm of the GOA for over two decades and has already affirmed his bid to be re-elected for another four-year term.
Yassin indicated that he was hopeful to have the elections before yearend, even mentioning that he would like for it to take place as early as “tomorrow,” referencing the magnitude of work to be done.
The former Chief Magistrate said, “I’m hoping that before the end of this year we get to have elections, I would like to have elections tomorrow so at least we could move forward, a lot of things need to be done.”
