The Rupununi Music and Arts Festival will host its total local edition virtual concert dubbed “Is We Ting”, which premieres live on Facebook and YouTube tomorrow afternoon.
Held since 2015, the Rupununi Music and Arts Festival is Guyana’s first and only three-day world music camping festival. The festival has been a melting pot of music, art, food and culture from around the world over the years.
However, COVID-19 put a strain on the arts and the cultural and creative industries. Live music and entertainment were cancelled and this significantly impacted society and artists alike.
Determined to keep the festival alive, the organisers Bob Ramdhanie, Gavin Mendonca, Denis DeAgrella and Luke Johnson, immediately started to think of ways to still host the festival in a safe way. This led to the first virtual edition being aired in December 2020. The team has since been hosting bi-monthly virtual editions of the festival on Facebook and YouTube.
Viewers will enjoy performances from local artistes like Trevaun Selman, Tujay The Poet, Gavin and Chucky, Herbie Marshall, Keith Campbell, ATayJAH, Rupertee Cultural Group, as well as Guyanese living abroad such as Rawle The Doll and international Roots/Reggae artiste Arkaingelle.
The event will provide earning opportunities as well as maintain exposure to an international audience online.
The virtual edition is supported by Banks DIH, the Guyana Tourism Authority and Cara Lodge. Persons can visit the website www.rupununifestival.com to learn more and find links to watch the stream.
