A 189-run partnership between Akshaya Persaud and Randall Wilson followed by a four-wicket haul by Sewsaran Sookdeo helped Phoenix Cricket Club to a 53-run win over King’s Men Saturday during the New York National Cricket League’s Cricket Zone T20 Cup.
Phoenix won the toss and batted, posting 189 for one from their 20 overs before limiting King’s Men to 136 for nine in reply.
Wilson struck two sixes and 14 fours during his unbeaten innings of 104 from 74 balls. At the other end, national left-hander, Akshaya Persaud, carved out seven boundaries on his way to a 49-ball 63 before falling off the final delivery of the innings to Oliver Buckle (1-44). The King’s Men bowlers did not help their cause either, gifting 22 extras.
King’s Men could not get their chase going as Sookdeo picked up 4-15 from three overs. Persaud returned with his left-arm spin to take 2-22 while Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club all-rounder, Jonathan Rampersaud chipped in with 2-25 with his off-spin. Trinson Carmichael picked up 1-20.
Opener, Andrew Whyte top scored with 31 from 26 balls, laced with three fours and a six before he was caught and bowled by Persaud. Whyte added 57 for the second wicket with Dexroy Mendez who made 27 from 35 balls before he was stumped off of Persaud.
Carlon Whyte was positive in his short-lived innings, hitting three sixes and a four during his 14-ball 26.
Extras accounted for the next best tally with 15 while Buckle (11) and Salman Ahmed (10) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures
