Dear Editor,
It was not without a massive sense of pride, albeit humble, that I felt while reading about the challenges faced by the young mathematics educator, Sunil Joseph of the secondary department of the Wauna Primary School. I attended St. Joseph’s Primary in Mabaruma (Town-ship) and later the NWGSS (in the compound) where my then math’s teachers; the quite capable Mr. Norman Whittaker, et al; tried their ‘levelest’ best to help us realise passes at the various math and other disciplines laid out in the then GCE and CXC syllabi.
As a pilot and pilot instructor, I understand the challenges that young Mr. Sunil must face, having to suffice with the resources, motivation of the students and yes the pandemic; and yet he remains dedicated to his students, to educating, to his community and (most probably) finally to himself, as he seems selfless in his strive to so too, like the ‘Mr. Whittakers’’ and the endless list of capable educators in Guyana and further afield – to have one sole aim, which is for they all to make good on those opportunities that THEY, have encouraged us to grasp. Happy (belated) Teacher’s Day young man. And well done!
Sincerely,
Lincoln Prince Wells,
