With nearly 900 persons so far dead as a result of COVID-19, Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony has disclosed that almost half of those deaths have been recorded in Region Four.
This was revealed during the minister’s daily COVID-19 update, where he stated that a total of 887 persons have so far died with the majority being unvaccinated persons. During the Minister’s update, Stabroek News requested a breakdown of the country’s COVID-19 deaths by gender and region.
The breakdown revealed that out of the total deaths, 54.8% were male, accounting for 486 persons while 45.2% were female which accounted for 401 deaths. “Most of these persons as you know would be unvaccinated and a few of them would be partially vaccinated and they’re very, very, few who would have been fully vaccinated,” the minister said.
He also noted that those persons who were fully vaccinated and died were those who had a poor prognosis as a result of several comorbidities while generally, the majority of deaths are unvaccinated persons who had other comorbidities.
