A second suspect was charged on Monday with the murder of Nelson Thomas, who was fatally stabbed after returning home from the interior to register his baby.
Seon Caesar, 25, called ‘Ratty’, of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/ Grove Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with the murder.
He was remanded until November 19.
This newspaper reported that Thomas, a miner of Kaneville, was attacked at around 9:30 pm on September 9. He suffered a single stab wound to his chest. He resided with his wife and mother but worked in the interior. He had returned home to register the birth of his newborn child. According to a police report, Thomas returned home around 12.30 pm last Thursday. Around 7 pm, he informed his mother that he was going to visit an uncle in the area.
A resident of the area told the police that around 9.30 pm, he was aroused by the voice of someone calling out for him. Upon checking, he said he saw Thomas lying motionless in his yard with what appeared to be blood about his body. The police were immediately alerted and Thomas was taken to the Diamond Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A wanted bulletin was issued for Caesar and he surrendered to police on October 16. Leroy Griffith has also been charged with the murder. He had appeared at the Diamond/ Grove Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Sunil Scarce where he was not required to plead. He is on remand. The police had informed that there is a third suspect who is a minor.
