Head Selector of the Wes Indies Women’s and Girl’s cricket, Ann Browne-John, indicated that there is a lot to be gained for the West Indies ladies on their tour to Pakistan.
West Indies Women will play the hosts in three One Day Internationals from November 8 to 14. Afterwards, the team will travel directly to Zimbabwe for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers from November 21 to December 5.
According to Browne-John, “The upcoming series against Pakistan is a very important one for the West Indies, not only will it give much needed match practice and time in the middle to our players, it will also give the coaching staff an opportunity to assess the team at this point in time coming out of our recent series against Pakistan and South Africa.”
This year, West Indies women hosted Pakistan women, beating them 3-0 in the T20I series and 3-2 in the 50-over version. The Caribbean ladies then hosted South Africa and played to a draw in the T20I series while surrendering the 50-over series 4-1.
“If the team is to have success in this series it would help them going into the World Cup qualifiers on a really positive note. It has sometimes shown in the past that teams who participate in a series just before a World Cup or a qualifier, sometimes because of the additional match practice, perform a lot better, the team will also be coming up against Pakistan in the World Cup qualifiers and it gives another chance for them to assess Pakistan,” the Head Selector stated.
She added, “If you would notice, teams that would be participating in the qualifier are having practice matches, playing matches or just come out of their own qualifying tournament so it is very important for the West Indies team to get that time in the middle.”
