Despite an all-round effort by Akshaya Persaud, GT All-Stars scampered to a nine-run win over Phoenix in the New York National Cricket League Cricket Zone T20 Cup Sunday.
Batting first after winning the toss, GT All Stars chalked up 173 for seven from their allotted overs.
Phoenix, in reply reached 164 for six when their innings ended.
Raymon Ramrattan gave GT All Stars a good start, hitting three sixes and two fours in 42 from 29 balls while Dino Choo-Wee-Nam stroked four fours and a six before being trapped leg before wicket by Persaud for 23 from 15 balls.
Renwick Batson and Michael Sultan chipped in with useful cameos of 37 and 34 runs respectively while putting on 75 runs for the sixth wicket before both were dismissed by left-arm spinner Persaud, who ended with 3-41 from his four overs.
Arif Mohammed supported with a ball-a-run 21 while extras tallied 15. United States’ latest selectee, Trinson Carmichael ended with 2-37 while Gajanand Singh and Yutesh Avi Dhanpaul picked up a wicket each.
Phoenix’s chase was off to a solid start as Persaud hammered five sixes and three fours during his 48-ball 71. He added 37 runs for the opening partnership with Ackeel Hoyte (10) and 54 for the second wicket with Singh (21). Carmichael made 15 but no other batsman reached double figures.
Ramratta, Choo-Wee-Nam and Mohammed ended with two wickets each.
