A Canefield man was arrested on Monday after he dealt his older brother, a police constable, several stabs about his body. The duo’s brother-in-law was also arrested after he allegedly dealt the police constable several cuffs during the altercation.
According to information gathered, Raul Rodrigues, 29, a police constable attached to the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam, Berbice, and his brother, 22, were involved in a heated argument on Monday around 7 pm at their home located in Canefield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice, which quickly led to a scuffle between the two.
Rodrigues’ brother then allegedly armed himself with a knife which he used to stab his brother several times to his abdomen and once to his right side leg.
Further, the duo’s brother in law, 24, then got involved and dealt Rodrigues several cuffs about his body after his failed attempt to bring peace amongst the brothers.
Rodrigues was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he has since been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The Guyana Police Force said yesterday that both suspects were arrested as an investigation has been launched.
