CSEC results to be announced by weekend – Manickchand

With the Ministry of Education in its final stages of verifying queries for this year’s Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) results and announcement, Education Minister Priya Manickchand says that the announcement is likely before the end of this week.

Manickchand explained on Tuesday that her staff are awaiting final queries and analyses to be completed before they proceed to announce this year’s top performing students for the country.

She stated too that checks are being made to determine if the students’ results being queried will have any impact on their plans to announce the results.

“…if a student has eight [Grade] 1s it won’t delay the announcement but if any of the queries are from a student who has 18-1s that might be problematic,” she explained.

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) had announced the analysis of this year performance since October 15 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

Manickchand had stated that the announcement will be made soon as the examination department was conducting the necessary analysis while simultaneously preparing for the announcement of the National Grade Six Exams.

Guyana emerged as the top overall performer at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and CSEC exams as it recorded results higher than the regional average in 20 of the 33 subject areas offered by CXC.

Director of Operations (DOO) Dr Nicole Manning in her report stated that 70% of students who sat the June/July examination attained acceptable grades when compared to the 68% average of other regional territories.

“Overall for CAPE as I have said, Guyana performed overall better, marginally better than the region…So overall again for CSEC similarly to CAPE, Guy-ana’s performance would have been better than the region,” the DOO announced.

Manning pointed out that when compared to previous years, Guyana achieved a general improvement in performance in Mathematics despite the regional average being poor.
