Suspected Mibicuri cattle rustler arrested with guns, police hunting accomplices

An alleged cattle rustler was on Tuesday arrested in the Mibicuri Black Bush Polder pump station area, after police were informed that the suspect along with two others had pounced on a cattle ranch in Kokerite savannah on Monday evening stealing a cow and leaving a watchman with injuries.

Cattle farmer, Seenarine Deonarine, also known as ‘Papo’, 64, of Kilmarnock Village, Corentyne, Berbice, explained, that around 7 pm on Monday evening, three men attacked his ranch located in Kokerite Savannah and beat his watchman. “They had a gun and them beat up the watchman and force him to hand over the cow”, Deonarine relayed last evening.

His watchman has since received medical attention from the Mibicuri Hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained during the attack.

According to Deonarine, after he was informed he filed a report at the Mibicuri Police Station and police carried out a search at the suspects’ known address in the Mibicuri backlands yesterday where they found one of the suspects identified as ‘Mark’, along with two guns in the house.

Commander of Region Six, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, last evening confirmed that one of the suspects was in custody and that police had indeed found two firearms at the location.

However, last evening there were reports that one of the suspects identified as ‘Bow Foot’ was found dead with gunshot injuries along a dam in Mibicuri which leads to the Canje Creek.

Ramlakhan last evening said that there were no reports of this to the police, as he stressed that they were still searching for the two suspects identified by the cattle farmer.  Meanwhile, Deonarine, who has an average of 500 animals at the location, further explained, that the three suspects have been pouncing on cattle farmers at the location for some time now. “Them na work, them come and live deh and them a thief we thing them.”

The man explained, that when it comes to cattle rustling often times persons are afraid to speak out and although they would file police reports, more often than not there is not much information for the police to go on.

He added that he is unsure of what can be done at the location since there is no sort of security despite a few watchmen hired by cattle farmers.
