Bonner nears century on opening day

Nkrumah Bonner stood out on the opening day of the Best V Best three-day match at Coolidge Cricket Ground, leading Team Blackwood to 234 for four at the close of play.

Team Brathwaite won the toss and inserted Team Blackwood who worked through the day, facing 87 overs.

Bonner faced 200 balls before closing the day unbeaten on 90, with seven fours and two sixes highlighting his innings.

The 32-year-old right hander added 88 for the fourth wicket with Kaveem Hodge who provided support with 39. His 90-ball innings was laced with five boundaries before he was trapped leg before wicket to Guyanese spinner, Veerasammy Permaul (1-52).

Jamaican Bonner also added 55 for the third wicket with captain, Jermaine Blackwood, who struck six boundaries during his 60-ball 27 before he too was dismissed leg before wicket, this time to pacer, Preston McSween (1-25).

Earlier, Shayne Moseley and Kieran Powell gave their side a solid foundation with Moseley making 39 from 101 balls. His innings featured four boundaries while Powell made 31 from 58 balls, featuring three boundaries. Both batsmen fell to off-spinner, Rahkeem Cornwall (2-52) and were caught by Nial Smith.

Raymon Reifer is currently at the crease on two with Bonner with the match resuming tomorrow.
