The Kara-Kara based Mackenzie Primary School in the mining town of Linden, was the beneficiary of a pair of basketball backboards sponsored by former resident Luckie Lawson.
The presentation of the equipment, which was solicited by the Brusches’ Basketball Foundation (BBF), occurred Tuesday at the school’s miniature concrete court. Former national captain and member of the BBF James Brusche, presented the backboard to Head-Teacher Camille Cummings on behalf of Lawson.
Cummings thanked the sponsor of the equipment on behalf of her staff and students, noting that the equipment will be utilised and maintained properly.
In attendance at the presentation was Regional Chairman of Region Ten (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice) Deron Adams, who opined, “A child’s involvement in sport helps to improve many things, social interaction, confidence and of course it improves his thinking, because of course, you have to listen.”
Meanwhile, the BBF conducted a basketball clinic at the venue, where the basics in passing, dribbling and shooting were taught to the participants. Brusche, during brief remarks, said, “We hope this will help you in the future as basketball is life, people from all walks of life have played it….we hope these few exercises we are going to give you today will do you well, being away from your laptops and gadgets.”
Prior to the conclusion of the clinic, the respective participants were presented with a top and a button compliments of the overseas based BBF.
