Despite the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Demerara Bank Limited says it has continued do its part in supporting the fight against breast cancer.
A release from the Bank yesterday said that it made a donation to the Guyana Cancer Foundation to encourage research and support people affected by the disease.
The release said that employees of the Bank also showed support by participating in ‘Wear-It-Pink Fridays’ and by actively engaging in an informative session on breast cancer that was facilitated by Dr. Syed M. Ghazi of Cancer Care Americas. This session covered topics on the symptoms, early detection, prevention methods and treatment of breast cancer.
“Nurturing the community through meaningful engagement is one of our core values and I am proud that we continue to support such a worthy cause” said Pravinchandra S. Dave, Chief Executive Officer of the Bank. He emphasized the importance of early screening among women and noted that 64% of the Bank’s workforce are females.
Chairman of the Bank, Dr Yesu Persaud opined that while breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancers in women, more attention is needed on the positive impacts of survivorship and long-term prognosis, the release said. He urged members of the public to educate themselves about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and and how to detect and prevent breast cancer in its early stages.
