It is alleged that on October 26, at Lot 32 Craig Street, Cambellville, the two men had 2 kilogrammes of cocaine, valued at around $2 million, in their possession for the purpose of trafficking. Joseph pleaded guilty, while Gomes denied the charge.

The two men were represented by attorney-at-law Siand Dhurjon.

According to the Police Prosecutor, officers from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) went to the Craig Street address and saw the two men in a vehicle. A search was the conducted on the vehicle and two parcels containing brick like items were found. The ranks then took the suspected cocaine and escorted the men to the CANU headquarters.

The prosecutor added that the ranks have said that the men were involved in a buying and selling activity, while it was estimated that the cocaine has a street value of around $2 million.

The police said that in a caution statement given by Joseph he admitted that they were trafficking the illicit item.

With his guilty plea and request for leniency, Joseph was sentenced to three years behind bars and fined $3,125,000.

Gomes, who was arrested for drug trafficking in the past, was remanded to prison until November 2.
