A driver who was arrested during a drug bust at Rahaman’s Park at Houston, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday remanded.
Thirty-nine-year-old Duvendra Sukhdeo, of Republic Park, East Bank Demerara, was taken before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with trafficking 15.6 kilogrammes of marijuana.
The man denied that on October 25, at Rahaman’s Park, Houston, East Bank Demerara, he had 15.6 kilogrammes (34.3 lbs) of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was remanded until November 29.
According to the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), on Monday, the man who is a driver, was busted after officers went to the location mentioned in the charge and saw the man along with two others in a vehicle. The vehicle was searched and eight bulky parcels containing the suspected illicit drugs were found in the vehicle. CANU said that the foreign and local cannabis was valued at more than $4.7 million.
