West Coast Warriors pulled off a comprehensive eight-wicket win over New York Titans earlier this week in the Rockaway Group T20 League.
Titans won the toss and opted to bat at Baisley Pond ground where they romped to 186 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. Warriors then replied with 187 for two, leaving 13 balls to spare.
The chase was piloted by Akshaya Persaud who hoisted four sixes and nine fours on his way to 70 from just 29 balls.
The national left-hander lost his Guyanese countryman and former Essequibo under-19 captain, Ameer Singh for five after he was bowled by Shopi Ahmed (1-43).
Nevertheless, Persaud shared a second-wicket stand of 66 with Chanderpaul Persaud who made 48 not out from 36 balls, laced with three sixes and two fours.
When the Cornelia Ida resident, Akshaya Persaud, was bowled by Nahiyan Ahsan (1-39), Chanderpaul Persaud shared an unbeaten 101 partnership for the third wicket with Saffeek Deonarine who led them over the line with 48 not out, decorated by three fours and two sixes. Titans did not help themselves, gifting 16 extras.
Earlier, Rudro Chowdhury top scored with 63 for titans, hitting 10 fours and one six in his 45-ball innings.
Chowdhury shared a 100-run union with Refatul Rasel, who made 33 from 28 balls before both were dismissed off successive deliveries by Deonarine (2-37).
Mohammed Ahmed’s 35-ball cameo came from 16 balls and featured five fours and a six but Javed Shafeek ripped through the lower order to end with 4-45. Warriors were also sloppy with the ball, giving away 25 extras.
