Ramson Jr., expresses desire to see golf grow

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., has expressed his desire to see the game of golf grown in Guyana.

Ramson Jr., representing His Excellency President Irfan Ali, was at the time making  brief remarks Fri-day evening at a reception at the Lusignan Golf Club.

Apart from expressing his desire to see the growth and development of golf amongst the youth of Guyana, he also spoke of the Lusignan Golf Club’s involvement and  reinforced his commitment to sport development in the country.

The cocktail reception, held at the LGC, was to welcome participants of the GTT Guyana Open Golf Tournament 2021 which began yesterday.

The reception was attended by Guyana Open participants, GTT’s representatives as well as co-sponsors Banks DIH, Bank of Baroda, Ansa McAl, Montra and Intercaribbean Marine Transport.

Ramson Jr., later drove a ball off the Club House Lawns to declare the tournament open.

At the simple ceremony, backed by the sounds of the steel pan, the evening began with the National Anthem.

Public Relations Chair, Anasha Ally, in her introduction, highlighted the immense benefits of golf and paid homage to those Lusignan Golf Club members who are no longer here but contributed the sport.

Brief remarks especially to the main sponsors were made by LGC president Patanjilee Persaud who underscored the  importance of GTT’s willingness to assume main title sponsorship of the Guyana Open. He also expressed thanks to the other sponsors, the GO Committee and those who contributed to the organization of the Tournament.

Persaud also extended a warm welcome to the participants and highlighted the club’s commitment to developing the sport in rural communities and amongst the youth of Guy-ana – a promise he previously made to the Ramson Jr.

Speaking on behalf of GTT, Tanya Wilcott underscored GTT’s willingness to sponsor this tournament and highlighted the company’s commitment to the development of the sport in Guyana.

Other highlights of the evening which was held under CPVID-19 guidelines included a donation from the club to the Guyana Cancer Society which is to be matched by GTT who has wrapped several tree trunks at the golf course in pink in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The weekend promises to be one filled with keen competition and sportsmanship in which the defending Guyana Open Champions Avinash Persaud and Julia Stephenson will face stiff competition from a very strong field of contenders to retain their titles.
