West Indies Test captain, Kraigg Brathwaite, said his side is eagerly awaiting their tour of Sri Lanka to close off 2021.
West Indies will have a four-day warm-up match in Colombo from November 14 to 17. The Test matches will follow on November 21 to 25 and November 29 to December 3. Both Test matches will be played at the Galle International Stadium.
According to the opener in a recent interview, “Obviously Sri Lanka is a very strong team, especially at home. I think as a team we look forward to the challenge. We know it wouldn’t be easy but the last time we went down we did decent; it has been a couple years ago…”
The opener, who had solid starts in both three-day practice matches, said that he looks forward to the opportunity to give his side a good foundation while relating that the batsmen seem to be in good form.
“I look forward to building foundation for my team and the more often I do it puts ourselves in a good position but all the batters, even in this practice game look good, spending time [at the crease] so we look forward to the challenge,” he said.
While West Indies lost their last tour of Sri Lanka 2-0 back in 2015-2016, Brathwaite finished with his best figures with the ball, 6-29 in the second Test.
“Obviously the bowlers will do well, which I know but if needed I could always get one in between, good memories there, but obviously we would be looking to close off the year strong.”
Since then, the next two series between the teams have ended in a stalemate.
The series is the second of six series, three at home and three away, that West Indies will play in the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship.
Brathwaite said points for the Test Championship are key as the team would want to end the year strongly to give West Indies fans something to cheer about.
