A young Cummings Park, Sophia woman is now in police custody after she was caught attempting to smuggle a quantity of cannabis hidden in blue soap into the Lusignan Prison on Monday.
The Guyana Police Force said in a statement that the 20-year-old woman was held around 12.39 hrs at the facility, where she had gone to to take items for an inmate.
It said upon her arrival at the prison, a search was conducted on a bag she was carrying with a quantity of blue soap. “Upon examination of the soap, eight plastic parcels with of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found,” the police said.
The woman was subsequently arrested.
The parcels of cannabis amounted to 22 grammes.
