A spirited half-century from Jermaine Blackwood was overshadowed by the bowling efforts of Team Brathwaite on the second day of the second Best versus Best three-day match at Coolidge Cricket Ground yesterday.
Resuming on 280 for four, Team Brathwaite declared on 326 for six after 110 overs while Team Blackwood closed the day on 213 for eight after 77 overs, still trailing by 113 runs.
Joshua Da Silva, who continued his innings on 14, only added four more before he was trapped leg before wicket by Jayden Seales (3-37). Imran Khan (20) and Kemar Roach (11) also made useful cameos before the declaration.
When Team Blackwood began their first innings, Roach removed Shayne Moseley for one in the third over while Alzarri Joseph ensured Nkrumah Bonner did not score.
However, the captain, Blackwood, showed his persistence with an 86-ball 50, laced with 11 boundaries to keep his side in the contest.
He added 78 for the third wicket alongside Kieran Powell who struck six boundaries during his 42-run innings that came from 86 balls before being dismissed by Joseph (2-29).
Shortly after, Blackwood was undone by left-arm spinner, Jomel Warrican who has picked up 3-45 so far.
Raymon Reifer resisted the inroads made by Team Brathwaite with 40 not out as he toiled for 143 minutes and faced 119 balls, hitting two sixes along the way.
Rakheem Cornwall aided Reifer, the pair adding 30 for the sixth wicket with Cornwall retiring on 27 from 46 balls while Veerasammy Permaul joined his former Guyana Jaguars teammate to put on a seventh wicket partnership of 40.
Permaul made 22 from 42 balls, decorated with four boundaries before falling to Warrican. Play on today’s final day, will get underway at 09.30 hours.
