A 36-year-old Linden woman is now hospitalised with a gunshot wound after she was shot in an attack allegedly carried out by her ex-husband.
The Guyana Police Force said in a press release that while the victim, of Block 22, Wismar, Linden, is now a patient at the Linden Hospital Complex, her former husband has been arrested.
According to the release, the attack occurred around 19.30 hrs on Tuesday.
The police noted that the woman, who owns and operates a grocery at the front of her home, was accosted by her assailant around 17:00 hrs when he stopped in a car and reportedly threatened to kill her and her new husband.
The police stated that the woman paid no heed to the threats but the man, armed with a handgun, later returned as she was at the counter in the grocery. He fired two shots, one of which struck her to the right side of her abdomen.
According to the release, while the man then fled on foot, the victim was able to call church members, who responded and took her to the Linden Hospital Complex, where she was admitted.
The police said acting on information they later arrested the suspect at 20:45 hrs at Canvas City. The man is said to have remained silent when confronted with the allegation that he shot his ex-wife.
