Machinery Corporation of Guyana Limited (MACORP) and the Lusignan Golf Club will once again collaborate to stage the annual Invitational golf tournament which will tee off Saturday.
Details of the 14th edition of the fixture were discussed yesterday during the launch at MACORP’s Providence, East Bank Demerara, head office where senior officials of the company signaled their commitment to the development of the sport in the presence of executives of the club.
Guillermo Escarraga, Chief Executive Officer of MACORP, said that it was a significant step by the company to align itself with the golf club over a decade ago, during which time “the growth and development of golf in Guyana” was evident.
“And for that we are happy to be associated once more with the Lusignan Golf Club,” Escarraga said.
“We understand that golf is a very tough game that requires the highest standards for you to be a good player, and we believe in those high standards and we put them in practice in everything that we do,” he added.
The CEO congratulated the executives of the club for having the course in pristine condition and hailed the successful hosting of last weekend’s Guyana Open, which was won by Avinda Kishore and Shanella London.
The MACORP Invitational is usually hosted after the Guyana Open, and this year’s competition will tee off at noon.
“It’s going to be a very exciting tournament. We want to take the opportunity to invite all the golf enthusiasts to the Golf Course. We anticipate we would have a large number of participants,” Escarraga said.
Patanjilee Persaud, the president of the Lusignan Golf Club, in accepting the sponsorship, said the partnership “is as strong as the Caterpillar brand.” MACORP is the only authorized Caterpillar heavy duty machinery dealer in Guyana.
Apart from the annual sponsorship, Persaud highlighted that MACORP has over the years played a significant role in the upkeep of the facilities at Lusignan.
“We’ve called on them many times and they’ve shown good corporate social responsibility,” Persaud stated. “We want to thank them for this long and enduring partnership. We want to wish them success in their business.”
Persaud envisioned “fierce competition” this weekend, while noting that the number in terms of participants will be second only to the Guyana Open, which attracted 76 competitors.
