A Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice man was arrested yesterday morning after police discovered 25 pounds of cannabis at his residence.

According to the Guyana Police Force, acting on information, the police went to Betsy Ground just around 06.30 hrs and carried out a search in the man’s presence.

During the search, the police spotted a freezer in the yard and upon checking inside a black, bulky plastic bag, containing twelve brown, bulky wrapped parcels and two transparent parcels, all containing suspected cannabis, was found.

The man, 26, was then arrested after which he was transported to the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam along with the items found and an XR motorcycle.

Up to last evening the man remained in police custody pending further investigation and charges.

Meanwhile, the police also reported that on Thursday, they discovered 539 grammes of cannabis along the Berbice River aback Edinburg Village, East Bank Berbice.

The police said a party of ranks on ae marine patrol stopped a wooden boat, which had a captain, 25, and passenger, 26, and conducted a search.

They found a bulky, transparent plastic, containing the cannabis.

The men were arrested and taken to the Central Police Station, where they items were weighed.

They also remain in custody pending further investigation and charges.
