Dynamic left-hander, Shimron Hetmyer, is aiming to end the T20 World Cup on a high as he looks to have a consistent run in the near future.

Hetmyer, 24, on the eve of West Indies’ final match of the T20 World Cup against Australia today said, “Consistency really,” when asked about his objective against Australia.

“I am just trying to be as consistent as I possibly can because it can really help with the overall performance of the team,” he added.

The Cumberland-resident reasoned, “Having consistent batters in the team and having players putting up their hands more times than not will really help us win going forward knowing we have another World Cup coming up pretty soon and we have other series as well.”

Coming off a string of single-figure scores (9, 1 and 9), Hetmyer smashed 81 not out in vain against Sri Lanka Thursday.

“I was just trying to give the team and myself a chance,” he said.

“At the time I knew the spinners were the only ones that were really posing a danger for any of the batsmen at the crease so pace on the ball would have been easier so at the time the best thing to do was see off and try as much as possible to get 20-24 runs off any one of the spinners and then when the seamers come on try and capitalize as much as possible to get 10-plus off of each over they bowl so basically make up from the overs by the spinners,” he said.

Hetmyer, who plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, reiterated that he is trying to get his game structured to help West Indies cricket.

“I am not really thinking about it too much to be honest. I am just trying to get my game featured around playing for West Indies basically because, in most of the other T20 teams I’ve played for its either all the way to the top or down to the bottom so I am just trying to get my game structured in such a way that I could basically help the team in whatever regard I can to help win games as much as I possible.”
