Linden Highway bust lands ex-drug trafficking convict on new charges

Avery Cummings

A man who was deported in 2005 after being convicted for trafficking narcotics in the United States, was on Friday remanded on similar charges by a local court.

Avery Cummings was hauled before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court, where he denied two trafficking in narcotics charges. Following his not guilty pleas, he was remanded and the matter was adjourned until January 3.

According to a Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) press release, on November 2, ranks from the agency went to Swan and Sam’s Ville, Linden Highway after receiving certain information. They intercepted the man while he was at his home. CANU said that he was found with a quantity of cannabis in his possession.

He was arrested and taken to the CANU headquarters. Several parcels of foreign marijuana weighing over 5.3 kilogrammes, and several ziplock bags containing seeds, leaves and stems amounting to 3.68 grammes and 3.5 grammes of hashish were seized during the operation.
