East Demerara makes light work of National Women’s U-17 team in GFF Challenge Series

The terrific trio - East Coast Demerara scorers from left to right - Brandon Gonsalves, Isaiah Ifill and Jaden Harris

East Coast Demerara brushed aside guest entrant, the National Women’s U-17 team by a 3-0 score-line when the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) U13 Challenge Series continued yesterday at the National Training Centre, Providence.

The trident of Isaiah Ifill, Brandon Gonsalves and Jaden Harris were on target in the 70 minute fixture. A 2-0 lead for the East Coast outfit highlighted the first half, with Ifill making his presence felt in the 17th minute.

It was a conversion which emanated from the right side of the field, as a cross found the boot of Ifill inside the centre of the area, who slammed his effort into the back of the net. The second goal of the period then occurred in the 28th minute, as the diminutive Gonsalves etched his name on the scorer’s sheet.

Racing away from the rearguard of the national women’s program, Gonsalves finished past the advancing goalkeeper during a one-on-one situation inside the penalty box.

Although the women’s team improved in the second half, the eventual score-line was sealed in the 70th minute compliments of an individual effort from Harris.

Receiving the ball on the left side of the field, Harris, upon cutting into the 18-yard area, dribbled past several defenders and the goalkeeper before calmly finishing into the far corner. The tournament continues today at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, as West Demerara battles Essequibo.
