Jacklow boat builder dies after vessel capsizes

A thirty-six-year-old boat builder of Jacklow, Upper Pomeroon in Region Two died after his vessel capsized.

Dead is Chris Williams.  The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday around 5.30 pm at the Charity waterfront. According to information reaching this newspaper, Williams’s boat upturned with him in the Pomeroon River.  Williams was said to be under the influence of alcohol when he moved off and crashed into some bushes on the other side of the river bank. He then fell overboard and reportedly drowned.

Members of the public immediately rushed to the scene where his body was retrieved and he was taken to the Oscar Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Williams was the father of two children. His body was then taken to the Charity Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.  

According to the police commander of Region Two, Denese Griffith,  the boat builder was “swirling” in the river and based on information he lost control and his boat crashed into a clump of bushes. He was alone at the time of the incident.
