Explosive West Indies Women opener, Deandra Dottin says her second One-Day International ton came in the interest of her team.
Dottin’s career-best knock of 132 against Pakistan Women yesterday featured 18 fours and two sixes and is the fourth highest score by a West Indian female cricketer behind Stafanie Taylor’s 171, 147 and 135 not out.
After the match the 30-year-old said, “To be honest my plan was to occupy the crease long, see what the bowlers are doing and see how the pitch is playing and just go from there.”
She added, “When I got the half century it was just to start fresh again to get a higher total on the board for the team.”
The right hander explained that her thought process was to bat through the 50 overs but was content to bat “at least 40 to 45 overs in order for us to have a good total on the board.”
Dottin reckoned that despite a 44-run opening stand, two quick wickets had assured her that she would have to dig deep and play a vital role for her side.
The Bajan shared a 119-run third-wicket partnership with her countrywoman, Hayley Matthews who chalked up her fifth half-century.
“It was just playing the ball late, focusing on keeping my head straight and playing in the ‘V’,” she said while contending that the heat was somewhat uncomfortable as well as acclimatizing in order to get sleep.
Dottin’s knock gave West Indies Women a vital 1-0 lead over hosts Pakistan in the three-match series with the next contest scheduled for Thursday.
