Kingston man committed to stand trial for rape

A Kingston, Georgetown man was yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the offence of rape allegedly committed in January, 2019.

Kumar Sukhram also known as `Akash’, 25,  appeared yesterday at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alex Moore who ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against him.

According to the Guy-ana Police Force, the rape was allegedly committed in January, 2019.

Sukhram was arrested in November, 2019 and formally charged in March, 2020.

The police force’s statement last evening said that “the accused professed his innocence to the court by saying ‘I’m innocent sir’ and was … placed on $100,000 bail.”
