Guyana B/ball teams eliminated from FIBA AmeriCup C/ships

Guyana’s men and women’s teams failed to make the knockout stages of the FIBA AmeriCup Championships in Miami, Florida yesterday after they were eliminated at the group and qualifying rounds respectively.

The women fared better than their male counterparts as they progressed to the Group section after participating in the qualifying round.

Guyana qualified for Pool ‘C’ in the main draw of the women’s championships and in the first game of the main draw, Guyana lost to Chile 13-18.

They were then eliminated from the event by Mexico, who prevailed in the second group fixture 17-11.

The Guyanese women ended with a record of one win and a loss in the Draw ‘A’ qualifiers earlier.

Guyana defeated Guatemala 20-16 before losing to Jamaica by the identical score line.

The men’s team however, failed to advance from Draw ‘B’ in the qualifiers owing to an overall weaker point percentage. 

Guyana defeated Guatemala 19-18 in their first qualifier but lost badly to Trinidad and Tobago 13-21, which sealed their exit from the tournament at that stage.

FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup Open Category featured 33 teams made up of 18 men’s and 15 women’s teams.
