A total of 40 residents of Charity, Anna Regina and Suddie, in Region Two, received on the spot house lots during an outreach conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Water on Friday.
Scores of persons turned up in their numbers at Charity on Friday morning to meet the Ministry of Housing and Water and the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) teams present for the one-day outreach. The outreach commenced at Charity then moved to Anna Regina and Suddie.
The Department of Public Information on Saturday reported that the outreaches saw the allocation of house lots to 40 persons.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CH&PA Sherwyn Greaves, the outreach was to specifically deal with housing issues affecting residents in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region.
Speaking to residents at the Charity Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) tarmac, Greaves said that the activity afforded residents the chance to meet staff members on a one-on-one basis and to vent their concerns.
Greaves said that the Ministry of Housing and Water through the CH&PA was committed to resolving age-old issues on the coast and clearing the backlogs of problems faced by Essequibians. He told residents that the ministry understands the importance of having ownership documents and ending boundary issues and was therefore committed to providing infrastructure development in the areas where allocations were made.
The CEO said that the ministry would be investing heavily in the infrastructure on the coast and mentioned only a few days ago the Ministry signed a $100 million contract for infrastructure work to be done at Charity and Onderneeming. The works, he said, entail clearing of lands and providing access roads and bridges.
Mention was made that one billion dollars will be expended for additional infrastructure works within the region under the ministry’s work plan for next year. Over 750 families in Region Two were allocated house lots for 2021.
