Dear Editor,
I am appealing to the relevant authorities (the Regional Democratic Council/Environmental Protection Agency) for their urgent intervention in a matter which for some time now (approximately two years) has been of “growing” concern to some residents of King Street, Republic Park, Phase 2, E.B.D.
The matter concerns a resident of the said street, who has been, and still is, rearing cows at his location, numbering in excess of seventy.
These animals, which seem to have a penchant for walking on our parapets as they head out to graze, usually destroy them with their cloven hooves and any effort (s) by residents to beautify and maintain their parapets, usually become (s) an exercise in frustration and futility.
Apart from the cows being a traffic nuisance, they also constitute a health hazard. The stench which emanates from their place of abode, especially when it rains, usually has a stifling effect on us as we seek to enjoy a breath of fresh (morning) air.
In addition, an upsurge of flies in the area has not gone unnoticed.
Finally, some of the residents may soon have to change their addresses from King Street to “Cow Dung” Street, compliments of our bovine friends whose daily splattering of waste litters the street(s) as they go out to pasture and as they return (home) to rest.
I will end as I began, with an appeal to the “powers that be” to take urgent and appropriate action to deliver us from our misery.
Sincerely,
(Name and address supplied)
