Weeks after a Brazilian national was fatally stabbed during an argument in Region One, the police yesterday issued a wanted bulletin for his alleged killer.
In the bulletin issued yesterday afternoon, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that Genelson Alves Olivera, 35, whose last known address is Baramita, North West District (NWD) is wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Brazilian national, Gilson Carlos Da Cruz Carvalho called ‘Negung’.
The stabbing occurred around 8.30pm on October 21, 2020 at Central Baramita.
Reports are that Olivera and Carvalho are known to each other. They worked together as gold miners at the Venezuela/Guyana borders.
Stabroek News understands that during this period, they had a misunderstanding over a quantity of raw gold which led to frequent threats to each other. The threats were never reported to the police.
The police in a press release had said that on the day in question, Olivera and Carvalho were consuming alcohol in the vicinity of a hotel at Central Baramita when a heated argument ensued.
The suspect, police said, drew a knife from his waist and allegedly stabbed Carvalho several times about his body. He then dropped the knife and escaped on foot.
Carvalho was rushed to Baramita Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival
A report was made to the Baramita Police Station and the suspected murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
