Just over half of Guyana’s adults are fully vaccinated, as the country’s COVID-19 inoculation programme continues.
This was revealed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony yesterday during his daily COVID-19 update.
“Well I just want to make something very clear and that is we are at 51% of the adult population so this is not the entire Guyanese population,” Anthony clarified. He then gave the percentage breakdown of fully vaccinated persons by region.
Some 43.2% of Region One’s adults are fully inoculated with 41.6% in Region Two, Region Three (48.9%), Region Four (58.5%), Region Five (51.9%), Region Six (49.8%), Region Seven (46.9%), Region Eight (34.8%), Region Nine (53.4%) and Region Ten (22.3%).
The health minister noted that these percentages only account for persons 18 years and older who would have received both doses of their vaccine. He noted that that 51% accounts for about 261,811 persons. He added that some 391,521 adults have received a first dose, accounting for 76.3% of the adult population.
Further as it relates to the adolescent vaccination programme which covers children ages 12 to 17, some 28,345 have received a first dose accounting for 38.9% of that population while some 19,536 have received both doses, accounting for 26.8%.
