The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), has congratulated West Indian and Guyanese legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul on his recent appointment as batting consultant for the High Performance Camp in Antigua and Barbuda.
This was expressed via a press statement from the club. According to the correspondence, the training camp will form part of the West Indies Rising Stars U19 preparation for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be hosted in the Caribbean during the period of January-February 2022.
“The GCC has been privileged to be associated with Mr. Chanderpaul since his formative years as an upcoming, outstanding West Indies batsman and has been pleased to continue this association with him throughout his highly successful career and, even further during his emerging coaching career”, the release stated.
Considered one of the greatest batsmen of his era, Chanderpaul captained the West Indies in 14 Tests and 16 One Day Internationals (ODIs). He retired at the age of 41 in 2016, with a Test record of 164 matches, 11,875 runs and an average of 51.37. Similarly, his ODI record reads: 268 matches, 8,778 runs and an average of 41.60.
“In the years we have been associated with Mr. Chanderpaul, he has provided the Club with worldwide prestige and his stellar exploits on the cricket field have led to multiple spinoff benefits for the Club, especially in terms of attracting young players keen to emulate his success.
