In what is believed to be the first football match with fully vaccinated players in Georgetown, Santos FC and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) played to a scoreless draw on Saturday.
This is according to a release from the GFC. According to the release, the match which was staged at the GFC ground, Bourda, was viewed by a sprinkling of vaccinated spectators, as well as the national head coach Jamal Shabazz.
The release said, “The Nation’s Capital City’s 1st fully vaccinated football match, took place Saturday 13th Nov 2021. The fixture was played between the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) & Santos FC at the GFC ground, Bourda, Georgetown. All participating players, coaches & match officials were confirmed as vaccinated before the football match kick off.”
“Some specially invited vaccinated spectators were in attendance, which included Golden Jaguars head coach Jamaal Shabazz. GFC played in their historic blue and white, with the club turning 120 years old in 2022, Santos donning a green kit. A rematch is rumoured to be happening within the next 14 days”, the release stated.
