Dear Editor,
Unlike many other Hinterland regions in Guyana, the Upper Mazaruni has this distinct function, only air travel to and from Georgetown is possible for people here. The recent enforcement of the full vaccination requirement to travel out of this location is creating a deep uneasiness here, and the tension is mounting.
Many persons have already received the first dose of the vaccine and are stranded because the second dose is not available here, and for others, the due date to receive the second dose seems like forever. We are approaching the holidays and many are preparing to go to their families in Georgetown, however they are trapped and cornered unless this situation is defused.
My suggestion to the Covid-19 Task Force and Civil Aviation is to allow persons to travel out with one dose, because it is easier to acquire the second dose in Georgetown. I am asking that the relevant authorities look into this situation with urgency, so as to prevent persons acting from desperation.
Yours faithfully,
Pastor Orrin
