I endorse the views of Leon Suseran re Pandit Deodat Persaud as GECOM Chief Election Officer. I have known Panditji for more than a decade and his frankness and honesty stand out as lodestars. Indeed he possesses all the qualities for the best GECOM CEO: a truthsayer and one who has the courage of his convictions, a capa-city to elicit trust and confidence because of his unblemished personality, penchant for making his word his bond, dedication and commitment to the task at hand reinforced by his experience as a commissioner of the Ethnic Relations Commission and an employee of GECOM.
Panditji belongs to that small group of Guyanese who lead by example, unafraid to stand up for what is right, demonstrated unwavering commitment to the upkeep of the law, patriotic to a fault, a man to whom no one can point a finger and whose worldview eschews bias, injustice, illegality and kowtowing to fear.
He will not be swayed from conducting himself as absolutely befits the position to always ensure fairness, accuracy and total adherence to the constitution with respect to elections and its concomitants.
Pandit Deodat is qualified, experienced and able and can bring back the dignity, respect and operational competence to GECOM.
