Dear Editor,
A special thanks to Stabroek News for highlighting my issue of GTT illegally installing internet service without the property owner’s permission.
It seems that GTT only acted because your newspaper assisted in making this issue public. Before your publication, for days I was getting the royal runaround by GTT’s Customer Service Representatives. I was totally frustrated by their utterly poor responses.
While many may judge my actions of requesting that internet service to a tenant be removed, the following are the factors that contributed to this request:
1. The non-payment of GTT Bills by the tenant which was in place for over a decade. I had to take money from my pocket to pay the GTT Bills, which is the tenant’s responsibility.
2. Breach of contractual agreement by the tenant in connection with GTT services provided to the apartment, which the tenant utterly refused to correct despite repeated notices. At this point I am still open and willing to approve the permission for this tenant to receive internet, however, contractual breaches must first be repaired.
3. The fundamental principle that service to any property by any utility or any other type of service provided must be first approved by the owner of that property, which was not done in this case.
Because GTT has resolved this matter I had no need to report it to the PUC and or take any legal action.
After this incident, it begs the question if GTT and all other service providers will examine their policies and ensure that they first seek and obtain permission from property owners before installing any service to that property. Legally this is the correct path. This was not followed by GTT in this case which led to this sad situation.
Once again thank you for your kind assistance.
With best regards,
Marcus Perry
