A youth has been remanded after he denied holding a piece of galvanised sheeting to a woman’s neck before stealing her motorcycle and money.
Akeem Alli, 18, of Lot 30 School Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan where he was remanded until December.
Alli pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing a woman’s bag and $13,000 cash. According to the prosecutor, the woman was riding her motorcycle in Georgetown when she stopped in observance of the traffic regulations. She reported that while she was stationary, Alli and another approached her, whereupon the youth proceeded to place a piece of sheeting to her neck while demanding she hand over the motorcycle, a delivery bag containing food, and $13,000 cash she had in her possession. The men then fled.
The court was told that a report was later made at the police station. Police arrested the man on November 13 and the motorcycle was recovered in an abandoned house at Leopold Street, Georgetown.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the crime. She further noted that the accused is currently being investigated for a similar matter.
