The Minister of Health yesterday disclosed that flights from Brazil have resumed with authorities stating that they intend to follow international travel protocols.
Minister Dr Frank Anthony made this announcement during his daily COVID-19 update where he noted that all of Guyana’s ports of entry have been reopened and Brazil is no exception. “Right now we are following our protocols for international travel and that is once people can produce a document to say that they are fully vaccinated along with either a PCR or antigen test they will be allowed into Guyana.”
Earlier this week the National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) gave the green light for the immediate reopening of the Guyana-Brazil crossing from Mondays to Fridays. Prior to this, the border was opened for only two days a week to facilitate trading between the two communities.
In May 2020 the border between Guyana and Brazil was closed and at that time reopened for one day each week to facilitate the movement of essential goods into Lethem from Brazil.
