Latin singer/songwriter and radio personality Carlos ‘Karlo’ Jerez recently released his second single since settling in Guyana a few years ago and is getting ready to create the video for the song, “Como Tu Mujer”, which translates to “Like You Woman”.
Throughout the Reggaeton single, Karlo refers to his lady as someone who is the best in everything. “Como Tu Mujer” has drawn both Guyanese and Latin fans, who have noted that the song is contagious.
Karlo had collaborated with various local bands in the past to entertain on different occasions prior to COVID-19. The singer explained that he felt the brunt of it having depended on live performances for his livelihood. Being fluent in both English and Spanish, he has since taken up a spot at Kaieteur Radio/99.1 FM as the host and selector of Latin programme ‘Esencia Latina’. The singer still relies on gigs at least once a month and has been expanding his graphics skills to create content for businesses, which he advertises on his social media.
Part of the reason the singer has delayed the production of his song video is owing to funding. Karlo is inviting sponsors to come on board as a way of contributing towards Latin entertainment here. He said business entities can also use the opportunity to have him put out advertisements in Spanish to attract the
thousands of Venezuelans and Cubans residing in Guyana.
“I can be a bridge for them to the Latin community by being an ambassador,” he stated. “I want to contribute positively to society with the music I create. I always try to write meaningful lyrics. I always try to send a positive message to my listeners out there. I’m also trying to make a business for other people getting into music… At the end of the day there are other people benefitting from what I am creating, like the printing companies.”
Karlo also has ‘Esencia Latina’ t-shirts on sale for persons who support the show and are looking to support his venture. He remains optimistic that the private sector will be supportive. If all goes well, the singer hopes to have the video out by next month.
Meanwhile, the singer is currently in the studio working on content for new music. He also disclosed that he has two upcoming projects where he will be collaborating with Guyanese. He did not reveal who they are but the songs will be released early next year.
