Over 100 residents recently benefitted from free testing for diabetes and hypertension, consultations with specialist doctors and awareness lectures on health topics such as breast and cervical cancers.
This was during an activity held at the Chinese Association building in George-town. It was conducted by the seventeenth batch of doctors from the China Medical Team.
The event was aimed at “improving health awareness and self-protection capabilities,” and promoting the “friendship between China and Guyana.”
Dr. Judy Hung, gynaecologist and obstetrician, from the West Demerara Regional Hospital was also invited to participate in the activity.
The doctors stressed to the residents the need to improve their health and physical well-being by improving their eating habits and strengthening their exercise routines.
This, they advocated, would help in preventing hypertension, diabetes and other diseases.
They highlighted anti-epidemic measures, such as washing hands and wearing their masks properly so as to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease.
The doctors were from general surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, traditional Chinese medicine, paediatrics and gynaecology.
